The opening ceremony of the 2025 Champions Trophy is likely to get cancelled after the lack of preparedness of the concerned stadium. Pakistan is all set to host the Champions Trophy, which got back its life after 8 years. However, the stadium allotted for the matches seems to be struggling yet with half a month left for the marquee tournament, despite PCB's repeated claims of getting ready within time. Meanwhile, the National Stadium at Karachi, which was supposed to host the opening ceremony, is yet to be fully ready, serving as a major cause of cancellation. Gaddafi Stadium at Lahore, which was supposed to host the playing countries' captains for the photoshoot, is still undergoing final touches. PCB had set deadlines for stadium handovers. Gaddafi Stadium had its final date on February 11, but work continues at multiple venues. Officials claim only minor tasks are left, but the delay has affected plans for the tournament’s grand opening. The BCCI has refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan, which means if India reaches the knockout stage, the semi-finals and final will also move to Dubai. Adding to that, BCCI denied Rohit Sharma's participation in the photoshoot session. With India being one of the powerhouses in world cricket, BCCI's attitude not only added tensions but also led to PCB canceling major events. Moreover, teams like England and Australia are arriving in Pakistan later than planned. Their delayed schedules made it difficult to gather all captains for the photoshoot and ceremony. Despite the setback, PCB assures fans that the tournament will start as planned. The first match between Pakistan and New Zealand will take place in Karachi, with all security and logistical arrangements in place.
