Ex-Sri Lanka domestic cricketer Saliya Saman has been suspended for five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC). A three-member ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal held him guilty of violating the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code, for his implication in violations of the code during the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League. The hearing was carried out by the tribunal in behalf of the ECB, and it concluded Saman's engagement in attempts to taint a number of matches in the tournament. Saliya Saman was one of the eight individuals charged with corruption in September 2023. Three components of the ECB's anti-corruption code form the basis of the case against him. First, he was charged with attempting to manipulate or unfairly influence games within the Abu Dhabi T10 in 2021. Third, he was charged with attempting to influence or persuade other players, either directly or indirectly, to violate the code's rules. Saliya Saman was provisionally suspended in September 2023. He was one of the eight individuals, all from the Pune Devils franchise in the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League edition, charged with violating the ECB Code. As his suspension is dated from September 2023, the cricketer has already served almost two years of his five-year ban. 39-year-old Saliya Saman is a Sri Lankan all-rounder who featured in 101 first-class games, scoring a total of 3,662 runs at 27.95 and taking 231 wickets at 25.92. He also featured in 77 List A and 47 T20 games throughout his career.
