Sri Lankan bowler Praveen Jayawickrama has been given a one-year suspension from all forms of cricket for breaching the ICC's Anti-Corruption Code. Jayawickrama admitted to breaking Article 2.4.7 of the Code and subsequently has been given a six-month suspension off his ban. The information related to the incident which resulted in the present ban is not exactly specified by the ICC. However, the violations did take place in international games and in the Lanka Premier League. In August, the ICC charged Praveen Jayawickrama with two breaches of its Anti-Corruption Code. He admitted breaches of article 2.4.7 in the ICC's Anti-Corruption Code which refers to blocking or delaying ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) investigations by hiding or destroying important documents and evidence. Article 2.4.7 of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code states that, "Obstructing or delaying any investigation that may be carried out by the ACU [anti-corruption unit], including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the Anti-Corruption Code," Also Read | Mohammed Shami Breaks His Silence: Responds to BGT Exclusion Reports Jayawickrama played his first international match in Test back in 2021 against Bangladesh. He has so far played five Tests, five ODIs, and five T20Is. The last game he played for Sri Lanka was the T20I 2022 at home against Australia. In the Lanka Premier League, Jayawickrama represented the Jaffna Kings, who won their second title in 2021. He appeared in only one game during that campaign, picking up two wickets. Next year, he will represent the Dambulla Sixers in LPL 2024.
