Chennai Super Kings stand-in captain MS Dhoni admitted responsibility for the team's heartbreaking two-run loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday. With 35 runs needed off the last three overs and 15 off the final over, CSK looked set to chase down 214 but faltered at the end to lose the match by two runs. He hit a six in the penultimate over but was dismissed lbw by Yash Dayal in the final over, leaving 13 required off the last three balls. Shivam Dube, the Impact Player, smashed a beamer for six but couldn't finish the chase, despite facing the free hit at the crucial moment. “Well, I think looking at [that] over, when I went into that with the kind of deliveries and the runs needed, I felt I should have converted maybe a couple of more shots, and that would have eased the pressure. So, I would take the blame for it,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation. 'We need to practise more yorkers' Earlier in the match, RCB posted a massive 213 thanks to Romario Shepherd’s late fireworks. The West Indies all-rounder hammered a 14-ball 50 and added 54 runs in the last two overs. Despite a fightback in the middle overs, CSK's bowlers couldn't contain Shepherd’s onslaught. “Other than that, I thought they got off to a good start. In between, we pulled it back. But Romario Shepherd, in the death overs, was brilliant. Whatever our bowlers were bowling, he was able to get maximum runs,” Dhoni said. The CSK skipper pointed out that death-over bowling was one of the main concerns for the team and stressed the need to improve their yorkers. “I think we need to practise more yorkers because if you see more often than not, when the batsman starts to connect, then you have to rely on yorkers and the margin of error. So, if you're looking for a perfect yorker, [and] if that doesn't happen, a low full toss is the next best thing because it's one of the most difficult balls to hit. So, I think that's where we need to improve," he said. Matheesha Pathirana began his spell well on Saturday, however, in the last over, he could not contain Shepherd. Dhoni pointed out how if someone as quick as Pathirana loses the control, he will be taken for bonkers because of his pace. “And somebody like a [Matheesha] Pathirana, you know, if the yorkers are not happening, he has got pace. He can bowl a bouncer at the same time, [and] keep the batsman guessing. Because, at times, if he's looking for the yorker, batsmen try to line him up, and if he misses, the batsman has a chance of hitting,” he added. CSK's Ayush Mhatre kept the five-time champions in the hunt with his 48-ball 94, and he was well-supported by Ravindra Jadeja, who notched up an unbeaten 77 from 45 deliveries. Despite their efforts, CSK fell two runs short of the target. With this win, RCB moves to the top of the table with eight wins from eleven matches.
