Ex-Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram has called on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to recall star batter Babar Azam in the T20I team for the upcoming Asia Cup in September 2025. Pakistan requires an experienced batter in the team, Akram feels, with key tournaments such as the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup on the horizon. Babar played his last T20I game in December 2024 when Pakistan played against the Proteas. The Later, PCB axed him because of low scores and an unsatisfactory strike rate that did not suit the team's demands. Akram, however, believes Babar's caliber and experience can make a huge difference for Pakistan in crucial games. In an interview, Akram said: "If I had the authority, I would definitely include Babar Azam in the national T20 team. The Asia Cup and then the World Cup are approaching, and we need a senior batter. Fans may remember that when he played for Somerset in 2019, he scored at nearly a 150-strike rate. He can change his batting style according to the match situation." He finds Babar to be among the best batsmen in the world and capable of playing under pressure while leading the rest of the team. Akram further added: "When we’re chasing 140 or 160 against big teams, we need someone who can take responsibility and lead the other 10 players. Babar has done it before and can do it again." The ex-Pakistan skipper added that Babar has a lot of years of cricket ahead of him and needs to be backed by one and all. He felt that head coach Mike Hesson can employ Babar in any batting position, but number three would be the best fit for him. That said, it may be changed depending on the situation, if overs are in plenty, then another batter can come to open. The Asia Cup begins on September 9, and Pakistan will play Oman in their inaugural match on September 12 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
