The former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer expressed his grief after the India vs. England series was renamed from the MAK Pataudi series to the Anderson-Tendulkar series. The series was named in 2007 after the legacy of Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and now the trophy has been retired. However, the board has continued to keep the name with the medal if not the trophy. Speaking about that, Patuadi's former mate said that he was joyous when the tournament was named after "Tiger". Speaking to PTI, Engineer said, "Well Tiger Pataudi was a great friend of mine, great colleague of mine. We played a lot of Test cricket. Great heritage, great family. I was most happy when the trophy was named after him back in 2007, on one hand I was very disappointed that the Pataudi name was removed, I would love Tiger's name to go on but instead powers decided the name with Anderson and Sachin who are legends of the game." However, Engineer lauds the officials for not throwing away the legacy at all by keeping his name associated with the medal at least. He added, "It (introducing Pataudi medal) was obviously an afterthought, they should have announced it in the beginning that would have more credibility but at least they have done something. Common sense has prevailed and hope the Pataudi name always remains, the achievements of Tendulkar and Anderson can't be argued against. There are two sides to the story. They had named the medal after Pataudis which is a very thoughtful thing." However, he would have proposed to have a different series named after the two modern-day greats; at least he wanted the board to do so. Engineer stated, "You cant blame them for naming the Anderson Trophy. I just blame them after changing the name. Why did they have to change the name? They could have some other trophy- an Anderson-Tendulkar! But, Sachin has been a great cricketer. His name should be connected with some trophies."
