Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma has opened up about the management's bold decision to retire him out during their recent match against Lucknow Super Giants. Tilak Varma became the first player in IPL 2025 to be retired out. He was batting on an unbeaten 25 off 23 balls before the management retired him out for Mitchell Santner. The Kiwi all-rounder, however, managed only 2*(2) as MI fell short by 12 runs. Speaking on Star Sports after his match-winning knock against Delhi Capitals, Varma said he never saw the move in a negative light. “Nothing, I was just thinking that they have made the decision for the team’s purpose. So I was taking it in a positive way and didn’t take it in a negative way. But the main thing is how you take it's more important. So I was thinking it that way," he said. Varma also revealed he had communicated clearly with the team management about his flexibility in the batting order. “I just want to be comfortable wherever I bat. So I said that to coach and staff that ‘don't worry wherever you play me I'm comfortable and I'll give my best'," he said. Tilak Varma’s IPL 2025 so far Since that game against LSG, the young batter has responded in style. He smashed a 29-ball 56 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their next match. However, MI fell 12 runs short of the target. In the last game, the MI batter scored 33-ball 59 to help his team win by 12 runs. Suryakumar Yadav leads the batting chart for the MI with 239 runs. He is currently 6th on the Orange cap list, while Tilak Varma is in 9th spot. Mumbai Indians are currently in the 7th spot after picking up their second win on Sunday. The team will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 17 at Wankhede Stadium. They will once again rely on the youngster to dominate.
