Star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has struggled to regain his spot in the Indian T20I team after India's World Cup triumph. He wasn't even selected for the recently concluded Duleep Trophy either. Therefore, Chahal has decided to play County Cricket Division II for Northamptonshire. In the tournament, Chahal stunned everyone with 19 wickets in four matches in which he also enabled his team to knock out Kent, taking out a five-for. Chahal revealed the reason he wants to play county cricket is to establish himself and earn a place in the Indian Test team. Chahal is working hard to get into the Test series against England that is scheduled to take place in June 2025, despite the presence of established spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. Chahal told Times of India: "County cricket is tough cricket. It gave me an opportunity to showcase my skills against a very good standard of cricket. With India touring England next year, I wanted to show how good I am." He also thanked Brindon for this opportunity in the county championship which really made him shine. He added: "Firstly, I am very grateful to Brindon sir who gave me an opportunity to play in County cricket, and then the Rajasthan Royal's coaches introduced me to Krish Patel, a highly-educated 18-year old cricketer who is thought to have a very bright future in the game. I want to see him play internationally and if I can help, I am always there." Chahal is ready to step out for Haryana in the Ranji Trophy and look to carry the momentum forward. Performance here in this domestic competition will determine if he figures for the Indian Test squad for the England series or not, though at the moment, he's not in the plans for Test cricket.
