Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has expressed his desire to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2026, stating he will be eligible for the league next year. Amir is married to British citizen Narjis and is expected to receive a UK passport in 2026. This new citizenship would allow him to participate in the IPL as a non-Pakistani player, bypassing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ban on Pakistan cricketers. He also highlighted how many former Pakistan cricketers are already involved in the IPL as coaches or commentators. While he did not take anyone's name, Wasim Akram is one of the Pakistan players to be involved in the IPL as a coach. “By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL if given the chance," he said. Ahmed Shehzad wants Amir in RCB During the show, former Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad agreed with Amir's desire, suggesting that he would be an ideal fit for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). RCB has reached the IPL finals three times but is yet to win a title, often struggling with their bowling lineup despite having a strong batting unit. “RCB needs a bowler like Amir to fix their bowling woes. They have a good batting unit, but their problem has always been bowling. If Amir plays for RCB, they will win the title,” Shehzad said. During the same conversation, Amir spoke about RCB's Virat Kohli and his relationship with the former captain. “Virat is great and admires talent. He gifted me his bat, and I was overwhelmed by his action. I have always been a great admirer of his batting, and he is of my bowling. I played some good knocks with his bat,” Amir added. Since the 2009 terror attacks in Mumbai, the BCCI has banned Pakistan cricketers from participating in the IPL. The inaugural 2008 season of the IPL did see Pakistan players like Shahid Afridi and Sohail Tanvir, but no Pakistan cricketer has played in the league since. However, Amir's potential UK citizenship could provide him an opportunity in the league.
