Pakistan batter Umar Akmal has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to reconsider him for national selection. The 34-year-old believes he still has four to five years of competitive cricket left in him and is determined to make a comeback. Umar Akmal made his international debut in 2009 and was immediately hailed as the next big thing in Pakistan cricket. Over the years, he played 121 ODIs and 84 T20Is, amassing over 4,500 international runs. However, his last appearance for Pakistan came in 2019 before he was sidelined due to off-field controversies. In 2021, the PCB banned Umar Akmal for failing to disclose corrupt approaches related to spot-fixing. Initially handed a three-year ban, his suspension was later reduced to 1.5 years. Now, having completed his ban and returning to domestic cricket, he is keen on representing Pakistan again. He alleged that PCB officials have been dismissive of his requests. "I have tried calling the chairman's manager and people around him, requesting a meeting, but they are behaving very rudely, saying: 'We will inform you when he gives you time' and disconnecting the call," he said. He further stated that players deserve better treatment from the board, considering he has represented Pakistan for more than 200 matches. "Someone should remind them that the PCB exists for players. If they don't maintain a good relationship with cricketers, where will we go? I have represented Pakistan too, and I request a respectful attitude," he added. ' I want to play for Pakistan again' Umar Akmal remains hopeful of making a national comeback and voiced his disappointment over being ignored in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) despite consistent domestic performances. "I want to play for Pakistan. I’m not claiming I have 10-15 years left, but I do have 4-5 years. Other leagues are calling me—I recently played in Sri Lanka and even led a team. But despite performing in domestic cricket, PSL teams are not selecting me, which is unfair," he stated. Umar Akmal last featured in the PSL in 2023. His most recent domestic outing was in the 2024 President’s Trophy Grade 1 first-class competition, where he managed to score 517 runs in 13 matches.
