On February 23, against Pakistan at Dubai, Mohammad Shami and the Indian captain Rohit Sharma, both seemed to have suffered from injuries, to which Shreuyas iyer confirmed that both are fine. Mohammad Shami, while bowling his over, had stopped due to a calf strain. The physio ran in and did some treatments, after which Shami completed his over. But after that, he left the field but came back after the first powerplay and did the rest of his quota. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma suffered from a hamstring pull, for which he left the field for a prolonged period. Shedding lights on their fitness, Iyer said that he had chats with both, and they look fine. In the post-match press conference, Iyer said, "Not really. I mean, I had a brief chat with them, both of them were quite comfortable with the way things progressed, and yeah, from my knowledge, I don't think there is any issue." However, Shreyas Iyer quietly played a crucial supporting role, crafting a vital half-century (56) that anchored India’s innings. Despite a slow start, Iyer adapted well, hit sweeps and reverse sweeps, and rotated strikes. Meanwhile, he did not forget to appreciate Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed, when asked about Iyer's dominance on spinners. He said, “Initially, I was struggling a bit to maneuver the gaps. I think Abrar (Ahmed) bowled brilliantly. It was important and crucial for me to play out that spell and, at the same time, rotate the strike. I took some time, and once I got my eyes in, I thought the sweep and reverse-sweep would have been a great option to put them on the back foot. I think that worked pretty well for me.” He also credited the Indian bowlers for restricting Pakistan to a modest total. He added, "They bowled tremendously, especially in the middle phase where the ball was turning and helping a bit. The wicket was a bit slow, even in the previous game we played here. It’s spinner-friendly and they have been bowling consistently over a period of time. I think the amalgamation of all three bowlers (Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav) mixing up quite well and the experience they possess brings a lot of clarity to their bowling." India’s collective effort ensured another 6-wicket win against Pakistan. India will face New Zealand on March 2nd at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
