Avesh Khan delivered a thrilling final over to help Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clinch a narrow 2-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 36 of IPL 2025 at Jaipur on April 19. With just nine runs to defend in the final over, the right-arm pacer held his nerve to seal the victory for LSG and earned the Player of the Match award for his 3/37. Avesh, who was struck on the hand during the final over, assured that his hand was fine. "The hand is fine. Initially, I thought I had broken it. I literally saw stars. Didn't even get a chance to celebrate," Avesh Khan said during the post-match presentation. Speaking about his approach, Avesh made it clear he was focused on being the best version of himself and doesn’t want to be someone else. "I don't want to become Mitchell Starc, I want to become a good Avesh Khan. I wanted to bowl with clarity and take my time. Wanted to execute my yorkers. I wanted to focus on my execution. I wanted to stop the boundaries in the first three balls," he said. DC’s Mitchell Starc had also defended eight runs against the Rajasthan Royals to take the match into a Super Over recently. But Avesh stayed calm and stuck to his plans. "I was sure as soon as the ball went to Miller that the catch will be taken. But with four runs, I was like the edges can go as well. But I focused on my yorkers and I didn't miss." Avesh also revealed the team’s mindset heading into the tense final over. "We wanted to take our time and set the field right in the last over." On a personal note, the LSG pacer highlighted how he draws confidence from playing for the team and sticking to his process. "I keep thinking about the team and wanted to win the game for the team. It is a long tournament, and I just want to do it for the team." The win helped LSG climb back into the top half of the table, while Rajasthan Royals slumped to their fourth consecutive loss. With their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, RR will need to regroup quickly before facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 24 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Meanwhile, with five wins and three losses, LSG are currently in fourth place and will return to action on Tuesday, April 22, against Delhi Capitals.
