Former South Africa wicketkeeper Mark Boucher believes KL Rahul is currently the standout keeper-batter in the IPL, backing him for his all-round skills and leadership behind the stumps. Boucher, who was part of the Mumbai Indians setup until last season, also shared his views on Rohit Sharma’s recent dip in form. During a media interaction organised by JioStar, Boucher said Rahul has been impressive both with the gloves and the bat. “If you look at IPL – I am not talking about MS Dhoni here as we are talking about the future – one player who has been sound with his ‘keeping and (has) batted really well is KL Rahul,” Boucher said. Mark Boucher, who played 147 Tests and nearly 300 ODIs for South Africa, also highlighted a recent comment by the DC batter that resonated with him. “He has played some fantastic innings. He made a comment the other night that I could relate to. He said that when he keeps, he picks up a lot of information that he can use in his batting. He would be the standout keeper-batter in the IPL.” Boucher also mentioned a few other names in India’s growing list of keeper-batters. “Dhruv Jurel also has good hands, Rishabh Pant is improving all the time, and he kept well last night. You guys in India, blessed with a lot of options.” Also Read: Dube reveals what Dhoni told him during tense chase vs LSG On Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2025 form: ‘He’s going to come good’ Despite Rohit Sharma’s recent struggles with the bat in IPL 2025, Boucher isn’t overly concerned. Having worked with him closely at the Mumbai Indians, he feels mental fatigue could be one of the reasons behind Rohit’s lean patch. “I’m not too sure where he is at the moment (mindset), from a fatigue perspective. He has played a lot of cricket.” He explained how, at times, the role of a coach is to ask the right questions rather than offer advice. “Sometimes it’s not about you giving advice to a player, it’s just asking one or two questions of him. Players don’t like to be challenged, but sometimes they like to challenge themselves. A guy like Rohit, he’s going to come good because he’s such a good player,” Boucher added. Rohit Sharma has been struggling with the bat this IPL 2025. The Mumbai Indians batter has managed to score 56 runs from his five matches with an average of 11.20 and a strike rate of 136.58. The former MI captain will be keen to turn things around when Mumbai Indians take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 17.
