Amid speculation around his Test career, Rohit Sharma has broken his silence in a rare interview on Vimal Kumar’s YouTube channel. While India prepares for a five-match Test series in England this June, Rohit addressed both his recent Test struggles and the public expectations surrounding his performance and leadership. Several fans and former cricketers have questioned Rohit Sharma's future in red-ball cricket after India failed to qualify for the World Test Championship final. However, the latest report suggests that the BCCI have decided to go ahead with Rohit Sharma for the England tour. “I haven’t thought much about the England tour yet. IPL is going on now. We want to win the IPL. My thoughts are all about this. I have said before, also, focus on what’s going on now. I believe in that,” Rohit said as quoted by Indian Express, when asked about his immediate future in red-ball cricket. Despite poor returns in recent Test series, including an average of just 6.20 in Australia, Rohit appeared content with what he has achieved in the longest format. “As long as you play a sport, you will never be happy with your performance! I am happy with what god has given me rather than thinking about why I didn’t do this, that. It’s all written in destiny – you will get this amount. Whatever I do, I am going to get only this. I don’t want to be hyper self-critical with Test cricket; I am happy with what I have done,” he said. “One who is sensible knows how to criticise” Rohit also reflected on the nature of criticism in Indian cricket, suggesting that reactions to success and failure are often exaggerated, something he has come to accept over time. “I have understood the system: when you do well, the reaction is too much and the same when you don’t do well. Too much on both times. What can I do about this? Just go with it. If you don’t do well, get ready for criticism. I am not saying one shouldn’t criticise, but you have to be mindful of criticism. Just that it shouldn’t be personal and should not have any agenda. One who is sensible knows how to criticise.” He added that external opinions have little impact on his mindset, as long as he stays grounded in his own goals. “You don’t have to live to keep other people’s expectations; it’s about what you want. What the world thinks expects doesn’t matter as they are not part of my journey. No one knows how I have dealt with training, handled ups and downs in my life, no one apart from your close ins don’t know about. I don’t keep unreal expectations, it’s simple and it’s my expectations.” Also READ: "One of the best days...": Dhoni reflects on CSK's loss vs PBKS Rohit Sharma will return to action in the IPL on May 1, where they will take on the Rajasthan Royals.
