Punjab Kings' fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is set to miss the rest of IPL 2025 due to a serious injury, with no immediate return expected, confirmed their fast-bowling coach, James Hopes. Ferguson, who had only bowled two deliveries in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), pulled up mid-over with what appeared to be a serious leg issue. The blow comes as a massive setback for the team, who were relying heavily on Ferguson’s pace attack in the tournament. In the pre-match press conference, ahead of PBKS’ upcoming clash with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Hopes said, "Ferguson is out indefinitely, and the chances of us getting him back by the end of the tournament are very slim, I would have thought. I think he has sustained a pretty serious injury." He was seen clutching the area before heading off the field for medical attention, unable to return for the remainder of the game. The Sunrisers, capitalizing on this disruption, went on to complete the second-highest successful chase in IPL history, winning by eight wickets. Ferguson had only recently returned from a hamstring injury sustained during the ILT20 in the UAE, which had also forced him to miss the Champions Trophy in February. This latest injury marks his third setback since November 2024. Prior to the hamstring issue, he had dealt with a calf injury that saw him miss ODIs against Sri Lanka last year. The New Zealand pacer had played four matches in the current IPL campaign, claiming five wickets at an economy rate of 9.17. However, his unfortunate injury history now casts a shadow over his participation for the remainder of the season.
