The 2025-26 Vijaya Hazare Trophy is all set to start on December 24, being packed with International stars. Earlier both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had agreed to play the VHT. However, a recent report has revealed that Rohit will play the first two matches of the marquee domestic league. According to a report from PTI, Rohit Sharma has confirmed to play the first two matches representing Mumbai in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. These matches are the first one on December 25 against Sikkim, in Jaipur. The second match is on December 26, against Uttarakhand. Both are Elie Grop C matches to be hosted in Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The report said, "Rohit has made it clear that he will play the first two matches of Mumbai against Sikkim and Uttarakhand in Jaipur on December 24 and 26." Meanwhile, the other Mumbai opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has confirmed his availability for selection till December 29. Suryakumar Yadav will be playing the last two group matches, as confirmed. Rohit, who last appeared in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai in 2018, is set to return as a specialist batter in this year’s edition, led by Shardul Thakur. In India’s recent ODI series against South Africa, he registered two half-centuries, and during the October 2025 tour of Australia, he notched a fifty in the second ODI followed by an unbeaten century in the third. Rohit has featured in 18 Vijay Hazare Trophy matches for Mumbai, scoring 581 runs in 17 innings, with an average of 38.73. His record includes one century and three fifties. These matches will serve as preparation ahead of India’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand in January 2026, where he is expected to open the batting.
