Jasprit Bumrah who was initially named in the 15-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy has been officially ruled out from the tournament as he hasn't been able to recover from his back injury. The BCCI announced India's updated squad on 11th February, also informing that Harshit Rana will be replacing Bumrah in the main squad. Bumrah's huge importance in recent times Jasprit Bumrah has been India's most precious asset in the past couple of years especially in the biggest matches and critical situations, providing breakthroughs almost each and every time the skipper has looked towards him wit high hopes. Bumrah was the star of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he was the leading wicket- taker, picking up 32 wickets across 5 matches. The star bowler had an unbelievable bowling average of 13.06 which was the best for any player in the series. He bowled his heart out, delivering more than 150 overs in the series and thus was rewarded as the Player of the Series for his excellent performance. Talking about the last two World Cups, Bumrah has been an invaluable gem undoubtedly. In the 2023 ICC World Cup, he was the 4th highest wikcet-taker of the tournament, taking 20 wickets with an average of 18.65. He then went on to show his worth once again in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup as he picked up 15 wickets with an incredible average of 8.26 and conceded runs at an economy of just 4.17. He was chosen as the Player of the Tournament for being the 3rd highest wicket taker and being one of the main architects of India's title win. India have decided to replace him with Harshit Rana in the Champions Trophy squad. Surprisingly, Rana has been picked over Md. Siraj and this has raised quite alot of eyebrows in the cricketing world as Siraj was the leader of the pace attack a couple of years back when Bumrah was out because of his earlier injury. What makes the situation worse is the fact that Md. Shami has just made a comeback into the national side after taking more than a year to recover from his injury and he hasn't looked in much rhythm lately. Therefore, Bumrah is ruled out, Siraj isn't selected and Shami is returning after a long time- which means that the pace trio of '23 World Cup isn't even 50% here and that's a huge worrying sign.
