Gujarat Titans took a major hit in their quest for a top-two finish in the IPL 2025 playoffs, losing to Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. While the Shubman Gill-led side continues to top the table with 18 points from 14 matches, their top-two finish in the points table is now out of their hands, as Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru all have one game remaining. RCB's victory against Lucknow Super Giants would guarantee them a top-two finish, while PBKS's victory against MI would see them into the second spot. MI's victory against PBKS would equal them with 18 points equivalent to that of Gujarat Titans, but again would place them first due to a superior Net Run Rate (NRR). Meanwhile MS Dhoni kept fans guessing as to if he would return to IPL next year saying he would take a break then make any decisions. In his brief tenure as captain, the veteran wicketkeeper led CSK to 83 runs win over GT in the Narendra Modi Stadium. Though CSK finished its campaign with an emphatic victory, Dhoni wasn't at his best this campaign as he finished with 196 runs in 14 matches with an average of 24.50. Dhoni's strike rate of 135.17 is a drop off his incredible 220.55 last season. Dhoni stated he has time to think and reflect, before deciding what comes next. If this was the end, it was a bittersweet end for fans, who in the end were waiting for him to bat, while he waited to go on the field. For the first time in their IPL history, the five-time champions, CSK, finished at the bottom of the table—a clear indication of a challenging season. Securing only four wins, the team faces significant pressure to reassess their strategy and rebuild. Stakeholders will be expecting a more robust performance and a strategic turnaround as they prepare for 2026.
