India, the two-time finalist in the World Test Championships, is currently having a struggling time. No amount of Champions Trophy or Asia Cup can hide the fact that India, who once dominated in the red ball cricket, is going down steeply. Currently India suffered a 0-2 whitewash against South Africa at home. With that, the team went down to 5, below Pakistan. Earlier the Gautam Gambhir-coached India team made "history" by not reaching the WTC finals in June 2025. Well, if India continues to follow the same "history" or not will depend on India's performance in the coming 9 Test matches. Where is India currently standing in the World Test Championship Table 2025-27? It's Australia and South Africa again occupying the top two spots in the 225-27 WTC Table. While South Africa had one defeat (75.00 PCT%) with Australia topping the list with 100 PCT%. Meanwhile, India is at 5 after playing 9 Test matches. In the 9 matches, they won 4, lost 4, and drew 1. Ideally, yes. India needs to have at least PCT% of 60, to be eligoble for qualification. Notably, India had to play 18 Test matches, of which 9 are already played. Currently India can achieve a maximum of 74.07 PCT%, if they win the remaining 9 matches. If they do so, India will comfortably reach the final. But if they turn the calculator more, India needs at least 78 points to get around 60%. In that case, India can win 7 straight with two losses. Or India can have 6 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat. What is India's schedule? Well, India will play two away Tests against New Zealand in August 2026. Notably, India doesn't have a good record in New Zealand. The last time India won a series was in 2009. Following New Zealand, India will tour Sri Lanka for 2 series- a must-win for India. And then Australia will tour India for five Tests. And it will be an absolute delusion to expect Australia to go easy on India.
