Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a major setback ahead of their home clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. The CSK captain sustained an elbow fracture and will be unavailable for the rest of the tournament. After CSK head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed the news, the team's social media shared a video, where Ruturaj Gaikwad thanked the fans for their support. "Hello everyone, Ruturaj this side. Really gutted to be missing the future part of the IPL due to an unfortunate elbow injury. But thank you for your support until now. Yes, we have been struggling for a while. You know now that a young wicketkeeper is leading the team, and hopefully, things will change. I am gonna be there with the team, really support them," Ruturaj said. He further expressed his disappointment at not being able to guide CSK through their tough phase, especially after taking over captaincy responsibilities. "Definitely would have loved to take this team out of this situation, but you know some things are not controllable. As I said, definitely looking forward to supporting the team from the dug-out and hopefully, we have a great season ahead. Thank you," he added. As Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament, CSK will have to look for a replacement for the Maharashtra batter. Notably, CSK still have an overseas slot left as they picked up only seven overseas players in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Dewald Brevis, who is currently in the form of his life, can add batting depth to the struggling CSK line-up. Also, CSK management did have a close look at Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre. The team had recently called him up for mid-season trials, and there is a good chance that the in-form batter could come into the side as a replacement. We've got some good players in the squad that have been with us a while, so we'll look from within first. But yeah, there is an opportunity to see how we can enhance the squad, probably moving forward into subsequent years," Stephen Fleming said. CSK, who are currently in the 9th spot with four losses from five matches, will return to action on Friday, where they will take on defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
