The English bowler Mark Wood feels like Rohit Sharma is the toughest batter he has faced throughout his entire career. He even candidly remarked that Rohit's bat is bigger, and it gets wider everytime he comes to bat. Recently, Wood attended a podcast at The Overlap Cricket, where he was asked which batter he finds difficult to bowl. Wood named Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Steven Smith and Mitchell Marsh too; however, Ro seems the toughest. Wood said, "Yeah, in different stages of my career, I would say Rohit Sharma. Difficult because against the short ball, you feel like you, for myself, I’ve got a chance of getting him out, but also if he’s on that day, he smokes it. So, he was difficult. I always felt like his bat was big, just kept getting wider." Rohit accumulated 113 runs in nine One Day Internationals against Wood, maintaining an average of 56.5 and being dismissed by him twice. In T20 Internationals, he scored at a strike rate above 133 against the fast bowler, falling once in three encounters. In the Test arena, Rohit fared a bit better, amassing 92 runs across four matches at an average of 46. Speaking about Virat Kohli, Wood feels that Kohli was an "unbelievable competitor" Even though he had his weakness at the fourth or the fifth stump ball. Steve Smith's unorthodox batting troubles him a lot. Even though LBW looks like a viable option, Smith still tackles it. David Llyod, one of the interviewers, asked what Mark Wood would do to combat Rishabh Pant's whims. Rishabh, like Smith, is unorthodox too, but Wood thinks a bit of nerve and unpredictability might help. Wood explained, "I think you’ve got to hold your nerve. That’s basically what I would say. I think you have to be sort of unpredictable but that plays into his hands, that he can just stand there and wait for anything difficult. But if you’re the same all the time, then he can, he’s got such a good eye, he sort of hits it where he wants. So, I think you’ve got to have a mixture of hold your nerve to maybe the old ball that’s a bit unpredictable, whether it’s a slower ball or you might change up with a really high bouncer or a fast yorker like something slightly different."
