In an unexpected turn of events, Australian cricketer Hilton Cartwright, representing Western Australia, left a match midway to be with his wife and their newborn child. Cartwright made headlines when he retired from his innings after learning of the sudden arrival of his second baby. The news came during the tea break on Day 2, prompting the batter to dash to the hospital to support his wife. At the time, Cartwright was on 52 and playing confidently. Despite his strong position, he made the immediate decision to leave. After assessing the situation and ensuring both his wife and newborn were safe, Cartwright returned to the field and continued to contribute significantly to his team. He shared that they hadn’t anticipated the game would be interrupted by the birth, but the circumstances demanded his presence at the hospital. Cartwright said: "My wife Tameka was only just 37 weeks pregnant so this match against Tassie was never meant to affected by the birth of our second child which is why I chose to play." Hilton Cartwright mentioned that once he became aware of the situation, he spoke with the management and decided to leave the ground during the tea break, planning to return later. He further added: "She experienced some complications over the weekend which led to a call from the obstetrician yesterday once I had already got to the ground. She recommended that the best course of action for the safety of mum and baby was to be induced that afternoon.” Although he couldn't extend his innings in the later stages, the right-hander still managed to score 65 runs.
