The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released its latest financial report, reflecting a huge surge in funds over the last five years. As per a report dispatched to state associations, the BCCI bank balance has increased by ₹14,627 crore since 2019. As of last year, the board’s balance stood at ₹20,686 crore, even after paying all dues to state cricket associations and setting aside money for tax payments. This growth was confirmed by the BCCI’s Honorary Secretary during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in 2024. From the AGM report, Cricbuzz quoted: “Honorary Secretary apprised the members that since 2019, the cash and bank balance of BCCI has increased from INR 6,059 crore which was before disbursing any amount to the state cricket associations to INR 20,686 crore which is after disbursing all amounts owed to the state cricket associations." During this period, the BCCI has also set aside ₹3,150 crore towards income tax liabilities for 2023-24, even while there are ongoing legal challenges. "The BCCI has provisioned INR 3,150 crore towards income tax liabilities for FY 2023-24."The BCCI has provisioned INR 3,150 crore towards income tax obligations for FY 2023-24. While BCCI is on the right track before the courts and tribunals, it has still made provisions towards paying any obligations that may arise towards tax," the report said. Yet, media rights income suffered a setback during the last year. International fixture revenues declined from ₹2,524.80 crore to ₹813.14 crore due to fewer domestic matches against other countries during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Correspondingly, revenues from men's senior tours and events declined to ₹361.22 crore from ₹642.78 crore in the past year. On the brighter side, income from investments increased significantly. Bank deposit interest increased to ₹986.45 crore from ₹533.05 crore the previous year. In total, the BCCI registered a surplus of ₹1,623.08 crore compared to the ₹1,167.99 crore in the previous year. This was primarily because of IPL 2023 profits and ICC distributions. The BCCI has also sanctioned huge amounts for the development of the game. These are ₹1,200 crore for infrastructural projects, ₹350 crore for a platinum jubilee philanthropic fund, and ₹500 crore for cricket development. State associations will be given substantial aid, with ₹1,990.18 crore in 2023-24 and ₹2,013.97 crore in 2024-25.
