Former Karnataka fast bowler SL Akshay died on Sunday after suffering a heart attack while playing a competitive cricket match. He was 39. Akshay, who represented Karnataka in domestic cricket and was part of the side that won the Ranji Trophy during the 2014-15 season, was playing a KSCA third division fixture for Sapphire CC when the incident occurred. According to available details, Akshay bowled four overs before leaving the field after reporting discomfort and uneasiness. He was taken to a nearby hospital immediately, where doctors declared him dead despite medical intervention. His death has drawn condolences from Karnataka cricket circles, where he remained involved even after the end of his professional career. Career and Coaching Contribution Akshay represented Karnataka between 2011 and 2013 across multiple domestic formats. During that period, he featured in six first-class matches, three List A contests and nine T20 games. Though his appearances at the senior level remained limited, he stayed connected to cricket after retirement through coaching and age-group development. He later worked with Karnataka's under-19 set-up and played a role in training younger cricketers within the state structure.
