MS Dhoni confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad will return as captain of Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2026, revealing that the franchise’s focus is to hand him a settled squad next season. Gaikwad, who led CSK in the first half of IPL 2025, missed the remainder of the tournament due to an elbow injury. Dhoni, who stepped in as captain once again, shared the update after CSK's final match of the season. "Yes there are a few holes that we'd like to fill but one of the most important things was when Rutu comes back next season at least we are able to give him a team where he just needs to fit in 1 in the playing XI. He doesn't have to worry about too many things," Dhoni said during the post-match presentation. Despite Dhoni’s efforts, CSK had a forgettable season. The five-time champions finished at the bottom of the table for the first time in IPL history, managing only 4 wins from 14 matches. The franchise is now eyeing a transition, and MS Dhoni’s statement makes it clear that Ruturaj will be at the center of their plans moving forward.
