Rishabh Pant’s tough IPL 2025 season continued against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala, where he fell for just 18 runs during Lucknow Super Giants’ 37-run defeat. With LSG chasing 237, Pant walked out to bat in the powerplay after Arshdeep Singh’s early strikes. The expectation was on the skipper to steady the innings, but he never quite looked settled. Former India opener Virender Sehwag has urged Pant to go back and revisit the way he used to bat in the IPL. Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag said Pant should remind himself of how he scored runs during his peak years. “According to me, he should watch videos of himself batting when he used to make runs in the IPL. You get confidence from watching that, you remember how you used to go about your innings.” Sehwag also felt that Pant has drifted away from his original approach since returning from injury. The former opener pointed out that even small changes in routine can impact a player’s rhythm. “Sometimes what happens is that you deviate from your routine. This is a different Rishabh Pant we are seeing after his injury.” The LSG captain was dismissed trying to slog Azmatullah Omarzai in the 8th over when he ended up mistiming it. In a moment that summed up his season, the bat slipped out of his hand and flew into the outfield as Shashank Singh completed the catch in the deep. He can pick that up and call whoever he wants. If he feels that mentally he is not thinking right, then there are so many cricketers who can help him. If he considers Dhoni as his role model, then he should talk to him.” “The dream is still alive”: Pant hopeful despite LSG’s third straight loss After the loss, Pant admitted LSG still have a chance to qualify, but things need to change quickly. The skipper has scored just 128 runs in 11 matches this season, at an average of 12.80 and a strike rate of 99.22. “If we win the next three games, we can still make it so the dream is still alive. See it makes sense when your top order is batting well. You can't expect them to do the heavy job everytime. We had too many runs too catch up and it cost us.” While Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran have done the bulk of the scoring for LSG, the middle-order hasn’t stepped up. Pant’s inability to anchor or accelerate in key moments has been a major concern.
