Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly believes that Rohit Sharma must take the responsibility of turning things around for India in red-ball cricket. He also stressed the importance of Rohit stepping up as a leader, especially with a challenging series against England ahead. Rohit’s performance in red-ball cricket has been under scrutiny after a disappointing season. India failed to reach the World Test Championship final, suffered a 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand, and lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia 1-3. With a five-match Test series against England on the horizon, Ganguly has demanded answers. "What has surprised me is his form in red-ball cricket over the last 4-5 years. A player of his stature and ability can do much better than what he has done. He must put on his thinking cap because we have five Tests against England, and that’s going to be another tough series," Ganguly said during Trailblazers 3.0 by RevSportz. Ganguly also pointed out that Rohit’s contribution will be crucial for India's chances against England, calling him "one of the greatest ever" in white-ball cricket. "Just like in Australia, it’s going to seam and swing. India need him to perform in red-ball cricket. In white-ball cricket, he is already one of the greatest ever," Ganguly added. "I'm not surprised that he's taken the side to greater heights in white-ball cricket. I don't know whether he'll continue playing Test cricket, but if he is hearing me, he should take responsibility for turning things around. India are struggling in red-ball cricket, and they need to find a way to perform well in England," he said. With the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League set to begin soon, Indian players will shift their focus to the franchise tournament before heading to England for the five-match Test series, starting on June 20 at Headingley Cricket Ground.
