Gautam Gambhir, the man who chose Marcus Rashford instead of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, it's very Gambhir-like to choose Harry Brook as England's player of the series in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Even Brook, who has been the fifth-highest run getter (481 runs), got confused, especially having Joe Root in the basket. Well, as per the rules, coaches from each side had to choose a player from the opponent side as the player of the series. For India, England head coach Brendon McCullum chose the Indian skipper Shubman Gill. And for England, Indian head coach Gambhir chose Brook. But why just Joe Root? Ben Stokes was equally deserving. An all-rounder, leading his team from the front, bowling the longest spells, having 17 wickets in his bag, and scoring 304 runs, with a third-tier shoulder injury, he deserved the English wine too. However, Brook thought, it was "Rooty" who should have been rewarded. Speaking to the BBC Sport, Brook reflected on Root's contribution, and said, “I didn't score as many runs as Rooty (Joe Root), so I probably think he should be Man of the Series or Man of the Summer. He has been for many years." Joe Root, notably, has scored 537 runs in the series, the second highest amongst all. It includes three centuries and a half century. Especially after his catch was dropped at 19, Brook went on to score 111 runs off just 98 balls. The series almost slid away from India's hands, but then the rain God saved it and drew the series by 2-2 with a phenomenal 6-run win for India. Speaking about that innings, brook said that trying to score runs quickly trying to lessen the run deficit. Brook said, "At the time, I was very confident. If I'd got a quick 30 in the next couple of overs, then the game is done. That was my thought process. I always try and take the game on and put them under pressure I wish I was there at the end. I've played all right. I could have won that game yesterday, which is devastating, but I'm just happy to contribute to as many games as I can." Brook was dismissed when England needed just 73 runs to win. Well, the Ashes are waiting for him, apparently, a bigger Test assignment from England's point of view. England will try to win the series on Australian soil, something they have been trying for the last 14 years.
