Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill powered Gujarat Titans to a memorable victory over Delhi Capitals on Sunday, stitching together an unbeaten 210-run opening stand in IPL 2025. The duo broke records, chased down 210 with ease, and reminded everyone why they are currently the most consistent Indian opening pair in the league. Gill anchored the chase with a composed 93*. But it was Sudharsan’s scintillating century, his second of the season, that stood out. The left-hander smashed 108 off 61 balls and was later named Player of the Match. "There's a bit of joy when you finish games for the team. In the break we got, I was thinking on that [finishing games] a bit more," Sai Sudharsan said during the post-match presentation. He credited a mindset shift for helping him stay calm during crunch moments. After losing momentum in the middle overs, Sudharsan said the plan was always to take the game deep, avoid desperate shots, and wait for the right opportunities. "We wanted to take the game deep, didn't want to be desperate to take a lot of chances, have a cool enough mindset to take the game deep. And we got two or three big overs that changed the game." Together, they've now scored 839 runs this season—the most by an Indian opening pair in a single IPL edition. "When I got after the bowlers, he compliments me, we rotate strike and run really well," Sudharsan said. "When I do some mistakes, he makes me aware and similarly from my side as well." "Honestly, at the halfway point, I thought we gave 10 to 15 extra," Gill said. "When we went out to bat, the talk was to just try and play good cricket shots." GT batting coach Parthiv Patel also weighed in on the pair’s approach. "These two play low-risk cricket and still have the ability to hit down the ground. People don’t see how much hard work they put in, creating those basics stronger." With this win, GT qualified for the playoffs, moved to the top of the table with nine wins from twelve matches and a batting duo that seems nearly unstoppable.
