Rajasthan Royals made headlines when they went all-in for 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction. The youngster was picked for a whopping INR 1.1 crore, leaving many surprised. Ahead of their season opener, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson shared his thoughts on the teenage sensation, praising the youngster’s talent. "He looks something special," Samson said. Samson further explained how Suryavanshi caught the franchise's attention, pointing out the remarkable skills which he displayed at a young age. "That's what our team recognised when he came to the trials. Our scouts followed him in the U-19 matches he was playing, [and were impressed with] the amount of shots he was playing. It shows he's really made for the best level," he added. 'To be honest, he's very lucky' Sanju Samson also praised the Rajasthan Royals management and said that the 13-year-old is very lucky to be a part of the franchise. "To be honest, he's very lucky. For a 13-year-old or any youngster, to come here to Rajasthan Royals and be under the guidance of Rahul Dravid [head coach] and all the mentors here is an incredible opportunity. They're really good at taking care of young Indian talent who have come here," Samson said. "It's a great responsibility not only for him but for us to take care of him and guide him, not just for these two months but for the 10 months he's away from IPL. He's in great hands, and there's something special for Indian cricket in the coming years from him," he said. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson, who is recovering from a finger injury, will feature in the first three matches solely as a batter. With Riyan Parag stepping in as the stand-in captain and Dhruv Jurel handling wicketkeeping duties, Samson will focus on his batting contributions.
