Indian legendary One-Day International (ODI) batter Virat Kohli has been in the limelight yet again, but this time the cause is even bigger—he scored two back-to-back ducks in the first two ODIs against Australia. In the opening match, he was dismissed for an 8-ball duck by Josh Hazlewood and a 4-ball duck in the second match by Xavier Bartlett. Since making his international debut in 2008, this 36-year-old batter has registered two consecutive ducks. He also achieved an embarrassing milestone, moving up in the list of most ducks scored by an Indian cricketer. Virat Kohli now has 40 ducks in 552 matches. After piling up runs throughout these years, Virat Kohli’s ODI form has taken a stride. Undoubtedly, Virat can bounce back, but with the kind of low scores he has been hitting, fans are expecting his retirement to be not too far away. Gavaskar has opined that he will surely feature in the upcoming South Africa series, but also in the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup. Two low scores won’t affect him, and he will bounce back because he still has a lot of cricket left in him. As quoted by Money Control, Gavaskar said: “Virat Kohli is not the type of player who will give up this easily. Do you really think he will retire after scores of 0 and 0? Absolutely no. He will aim to retire on a high note. There is the Sydney game ahead, followed by the ODI series at home against South Africa, and there are a lot of ODIs left. I would say the 2027 World Cup will be for Kohli, alongside Rohit.” He further added: “Look, the man has more than 14,000 runs, 52 ODI centuries, and I think 32 Test centuries. He's scored thousands and thousands of runs, so he's allowed a couple of failures.” With a 2 wicket defeat in the second match at Adelaide Oval, India lost the series. However, the Shubman Gill-led side will aim for a consolation victory and avoid the whitewash against Australia in the final match, which is scheduled to be played at SCG in Sydney on Saturday, October 25.
