The Chennai Super Kings are enduring a forgettable season in IPL 2025 so far. With just one win and five losses from six matches, they currently sit at the bottom of the table. The team has now lost five games in a row, and things only seem to be getting worse for the five-time champions. To make matters more challenging, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury, forcing the captaincy back into the hands of MS Dhoni. Recently, former CSK and India cricketer Harbhajan Singh openly questioned Dhoni’s place in the batting order. “If he is batting at No. 9, he shouldn’t be playing. He is a better player than that. He has shown he can hit those big sixes, then why bat so low? He is destroying his own legacy,” Harbhajan said. He further pointed out how Dhoni has fared better individually in matches CSK has lost, rather than in the ones they’ve won. “He has a better record when the team is losing. This should be in the reverse manner. He should be having a better record while winning,” he added. 'Nobody is going to judge Dhoni' Harbhajan also insisted that Dhoni should bat higher up the order, at No.4 or No.5, where he can still express himself. “Come up the order. Bat at 4 or 5 and try hitting those big sixes. Try while batting up the order. Nobody is going to judge you even if you fail there, but come up the order,” he said. Harbhajan also hinted that if Dhoni is not going to contribute with the bat, it might be time to step aside. He also added that if Dhoni is staying on due to commercial reasons, his value as a mentor would still keep sponsors interested, and the franchise would still have great value.
