Mohammad Siraj is no doubt a character, giving his all with the ball, at the boundary, and even sometimes with the bat when needed, and Joe Root recognizes that. That Siraj can get angry sometimes, but Rook loves to see beyond that fake rage and calls me a "nice lad." Not only that, but he even calls Siraj a warrior, a man with skills and a terrific work ethic. After the stumps were called early on Day 5 due to rain, the former England captain Root attended the press conference, where he was asked to speak about Siraj. Root said, "He is a character. He is a warrior. He is a real warrior. He is someone that you want in your team. He is that kind of character. He gives everything for India, and you credit him for that. The way he approaches cricket, he's got this, like, fake angriness about him sometimes, which I can see straight through. You can tell he is actually a nice lad. But he tries it incredibly hard. He is a very skillful player. And the reason why he got the wickets he has is because, one, his work ethic, and two, his skill level." Root added, "I enjoy playing against him. He has a got big smile on his face. And he will give everything for his team. I guess you couldn't want anything more of that as a fan watching and a great example to any young player starting out." He even bagged 20 scalps, topping the list of highest wicket-takers, having Jos Tongue right behind him with 19 wickets. Despite giving his all, Siraj will probably remember the series not for the stats, but for the unfortunate dismissal at Lords that cost India the match and another unfortunate drop catch of Harry Brook at The Oval. Brook was at 19 when Siraj easily took the catch but stepped on the boundary rope, having the ball in hand. Brook thereafter played a quick 111-run innings, having Root (105) by his side. As of now, England will have to chase 35 runs, having 4 wickets in hand and the entire Day 5.
