Pakistan’s Haris Rauf has been docked 30% of his match fees for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against India on September 21. The decision followed a formal complaint lodged by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The pacer had gestured ‘6-0’ at Indian supporters and mimicked a crashing plane after dismissing Sanju Samson. Match referee Andy Pycroft presided over the hearing and imposed the sanction. Rauf appeared in person at the hearing, alongside team manager Naveed Akram Cheema, and submitted a written response. The fine was for what the ICC termed “aggressive gestures and inappropriate body language.” He will also collect demerit points, though no suspension has been handed out. These gestures were interpreted in India as a provocative reference to past military tensions. He argued it was a cultural expression associated with his Pashtun roots and highlighted that similar celebrations have been seen globally. Reports say he referenced MS Dhoni’s famous bat-as-rifle act from 2005 and Virat Kohli’s gun-firing mimicry in the 2024 IPL as precedents during the hearing. The hearing was conducted at the Pakistan team hotel, with all responses recorded formally. Match referee Richie Richardson oversaw Farhan’s case separately. According to sources, ICC officials accepted Farhan’s explanation but reminded him about sensitivity during high-tension fixtures. BCCI’s complaint had cited that such acts could aggravate crowd emotions, especially given the backdrop of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
