Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) was clearly emotional and destroyed after the Mumbai Indians tough defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025. The match happened at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, a home and away round of matches. MI was knocked out of the IPL after this loss and PKBS secured a place for the final match to compete with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Tuesday, June 3. After being put to bat first, MI had a pretty good innings of 203 runs for 6 in 20 overs with Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma both contributing 44 each. Jonny Bairstow scored 38 and Naman Dhir with a nice 37 were team player contributions. In pursuit of the target, the PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer stood tall, scoring an incredible unbeaten match-winning innings of 87 runs in just 41 balls. Thanks to Iyer's power-hitting, PBKS cruised to the victory with five wickets and one over to spare. After Iyer finished the match with a giant six, a tearful and frustrated Pandya was seen being consoled by his teammates – including Suryakumar Yadav. During the post-match presentation, Pandya confirmed PBKS was in terrific form to bat and said MI's bowlers hadn't executed the plans they wanted to deploy. "They batted really well. I think it was a par total but it needed some really great execution as a bowling unit which in all these big games, really matters. They were really, really calm and put us under pressure. We were not able to execute the way we wanted. I'll not put it on the wicket. If we had to do something better it was to bowl better lengths and bowl the right ball at the right time." Pandya Signed off: "Maybe I could have managed the troops better and the result could have been different. In hindsight, it would have been different but we could have left it a bit too early as well. Boom, knowing him, even if 18 balls were left, Jassi can be Jassi and do something special. It just didn't happen today."
