Rohit Sharma has rested himself from the final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Jasprit Bumrah, the vice-captain of the side, is leading team India in this match. However, there are some reports the claims that Rohit has not rested himself but dropped by the management following his dismal performance in last three Tests where he only scored 31 runs. Amidst this chaos, a new report comes out which states that Hardik Pandya could replace Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain and lead the side in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. It is assumed that the Test at MCG was the last Test of Rohit Sharma's career, and if he retires from the ODI as well, Hardik is the best possible option to replace him. MyKhel quoted an unnamed BCCI source saying: “Hardik has the knack for leading in high-pressure situations, and his experience as an all-rounder and leader makes him an ideal choice for an ICC tournament like the Champions Trophy." The source dismissed the current T20I captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav and the skipper of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, Shubman Gill as a possible replacement option for the role of captaincy. The source added: "Gill needs more grooming to mature into a leader, and SKY’s ODI performances haven’t been convincing enough. Hardik remains the most balanced option to lead India in ODIs if Rohit is unavailable."
