Harbhajan Singh challenged the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Ajit Agarkar-headed selection committee to omit Shreyas Iyer from the Indian team for the five-Test tour of England, starting on Friday, June 20. Even though he played steadily as a player and as a captain in the recently-held Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Shreyas was unable to get a recall in India's red-ball team. Most of the fans and experts have been criticizing this move since the announcement of the 18-member team without Shreyas last month. Harbhajan said Shreyas has proved himself in ODIs and questioned if selectors still don’t see him as a red-ball player. Here is what Harbhajan said while speaking on the sidelines of the Vidarbha Cricket League launch in Nagpur “Shreyas Iyer is a very fine player. He's proven himself in ODIs, performed in the World Cup, Champions Trophy, and IPL. So yes, he should've been in the squad. But maybe the selectors don't see him as a red-ball player right now,” Also Read | Watch: Jitesh Sharma Seals Semi-Final with Last-Ball Six The ex-India off-spinner, though, stated that if he had been the selector, he would have absolutely included the Mumbai batter in India's Test squad for the much-awaited tour of England. However, he emphasized that this isn’t the end of the road for the 30-year-old in Test cricket. Harbhajan also mentioned that Shreyas could be a potential candidate for the ODI captaincy in the future. “If I were part of the selection committee, I would have considered him. But this is not the end — his journey is long, and he might even be a future ODI captain. One missed tour doesn't mean his career is over," he added. Harbhajan Singh backs Sai Sudharsan for the No. 3 spot Harbhajan hinted that Sai Sudharsan, the winner of Orange Cap in IPL 2025, may play at No. 3 for India in the Tests against England. The cricketer-turned-expert spotted the Tamil Nadu batter's outstanding IPL performance and good technique. “In my opinion, Sai Sudharsan should play at No.3. He's a left-hander, in top form, and just came off a very impressive IPL. His technique is sound, and I believe he could be the solution at that position," Harbhajan mentioned.
