The former Andhra Pradesh batter, Hanuma Vihari, has decided to make a fresh switch to another state before the upcoming domestic season. The 31-year-old batter has sought a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA). It has been reported that the batter is likely to move to Tripura for the new season. Tripura will be playing in the Elite division across formats, both in red and white ball. Hanuma Vihari will be selected as the leader as well. As quoted by Cricbuzz, Vihari said: "I have been thinking about a switch. Tripura has been asking me for some time.” Former TCA President Tapan Lodh, who is also a current member of the Association, also clarified that Hanuma was one of the few individuals who was on the recommendation list for the signing. As reported by Cricbuzz, Tapan was quoted: "We have recommended to the association a few names to sign as professionals. I cannot disclose the names but I know we are signing Vihari.” Hanuma Vihari made his debut in the 2011-12 domestic season, and till now he has been featured in 84 matches, with 44 matches for Andhra Pradesh. In 44 matches, he scored 3013 runs at an average of 44.97 with four centuries and 20 half-centuries. For Hyderabad, he featured in 40 matches, scoring 3,155 runs at an average of 57.38, with 10 centuries and 12 half-centuries. The 31-year-old batter last featured for the Indian National Cricket Team in 2022 against England, and since then, he has been struggling to return. He has featured in 16 Test matches for the Indian Team, scoring 839 runs. Vihari’s domestic career has been surrounded by many controversies and rough patches; one of the incidents was that he was controversially removed from the leadership position of the Andhra Pradesh team in 2024 following some political drama. Tripura, who are placed in Ranji Elite Group C Division, will be boosted by the addition of Hanuma Vihari ahead of the new season.
