Zimbabwe opener Ben Curran has been excluded from the upcoming Test series against South Africa because of a hand injury. The left-handed batsman fractured his right hand after being hit by a delivery by Kagiso Rabada on the second day of warm-up match. The injury occurred while he was batting in the fifth over. Curran was treated on the field and then was taken for an X-ray, which confirmed the injury. He retired hurt on 4 runs. While he is likely to escape surgery, recovery will take about 4 to 6 weeks. Curran, who played his first Test in December 2024, has so far played six Tests his previous outing. He has also played six ODIs but yet to appear in a T20 International. Curran, who is known for opening the innings in red-ball cricket, performed the same role during the tour match too. In the practice match, South Africa scored 313 for 2 in 79 overs. Rabada bowled with genuine pace, sending Brian Bennett back after hurting Curran. Marco Jansen shared the new ball, and Lungi Ngidi pestered the batters in the latter part of the day, even shattering Nick Welch's bat. Thanks to the interruptions, South Africa will travel to London for the World Test Championship Final against Australia with precious little game time. That final gets underway on June 11 at Lord's. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will head back home and ready themselves for the two-Test series against South Africa from June 28 in Bulawayo. They will also be hosting a T20I tri-series featuring South Africa and New Zealand, and then still more against New Zealand and Afghanistan later in the year.
