New Zealand finally registered their first win in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025, defeating Bangladesh convincingly by 100 runs in Guwahati. Brooke Halliday and Sophie Devine were the heroes with the bat, adding a vital 112-run partnership to help New Zealand recover from a top-order meltdown. Jess Kerr, Lea Tahuhu and Rosemary Mair collectively bagged eight wickets to help New Zealand's unbroken record against Bangladesh across formats. Deciding to bat first on a slow pitch, New Zealand were in trouble early at 38 for 3, as leggie Rabeya Khan (3 for 30) collected two wickets and Suzie Bates was run out. Halliday and Devine then grounded the innings with cautious batting, rotating the strike and hitting the loose balls. Devine hammered 63 from 85 deliveries, with Halliday contributing a good 69 from 104. Their stand took the innings deep, with Maddy Green's 25 at the death for momentum as the side closed on 227 for 9. The top order went into hiding as wickets tumbled frequently, with the first boundary of the innings arriving after 10.5 overs. Bangladesh completed the powerplay at 22 for 3, the lowest ten-over score of the tournament. Tahuhu (3 for 22) also chipped in and hit two in an over to leave Bangladesh at 33 for 6, practically a point of no return on a pitch where scoring wasn't as smooth. Fahima Khatun fought for her 34 and contributed tiny stands with the lower order, but only brought temporary relief. Bangladesh were bowled out for 127 in the 40th over.
