Royal Challengers Bengaluru got off to a flying start against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the season opener. Chasing 175 for victory, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt put together a crucial 95-run stand for the first wicket, reaching the mark in just 8.3 overs. While Kohli remained unbeaten with a 36-ball 59, Salt departed after a brisk 31-ball 56. Speaking to JioHotstar commentators after the match, Salt reflected on the partnership. "Kohli and I haven't batted together much, to put on a partnership like that was key," he said. Making his debut for RCB, Salt had played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous edition. Reflecting on the familiar conditions, he explained how his experience at Eden Gardens helped him understand the behaviour of the pitch in the evening. "It is a ground I know, I know these players very well. So, the plan was simple. Wanted to go on longer, but not to be," he said. Salt also highlighted the advantage of chasing at the venue, pointing out how the pitch conditions eased up in the second innings. "Batting second here makes a bit of difference, you have to stand and hit through the line. That's what we spoke about as well. We are very happy with the outcome," he said. 'It was good to win the trophy with KKR' When Ravi Shastri, who was in the commentary box, asked Salt about the fan support he received and his time with KKR, Salt responded with a laugh. "Obviously I had a great time here with KKR, it was good to win the trophy, but I got no friends down here(during the match on the field)," he said. The England batter began his IPL career with Delhi Capitals in the 2023 edition before moving to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. Opening the innings for KKR in the last edition, he scored 435 runs in 12 appearances, averaging close to 40 with a strike rate of 182.01.
