Indian audiences connected deeply with the Indian Premier League (IPL) as it broadcasts in various regional languages. The popular league is available in 12 languages across the country, including Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Odia, Marathi, Haryanvi, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, and Gujarati, alongside the usual Hindi and English broadcasts. Recently, a gully cricket game in Bengaluru has driven home a different message as commentary in Sanskrit during the game has gone viral on social media. Sanskrit is considered an ancient language since many religious texts were written in this language and even some English words are derived from Sanskrit vocabulary. A town Muttur which is 300 km away from Bengaluru, is also known as 'Sanskrit Village' because of the widespread use of this classical language. When a video of commentary by Arun Kumar Kalagi went viral, then people started discussing about the beauty of the Sanskrit language. This event was organized by a language learning platform Sthaayi, and catered by Karnataka Sanskrit University. Arun Kumar, who gave the Sanskrit commentary, is a Sanskrit teacher at Vivekananda School in Bengaluru.
