Sherfane Rutherford wrapped up the chase in emphatic fashion as he lofted the last ball for a six at the long leg fence, and led Gujarat Titans to a commanding eight-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Titans' chase was anchored by a brilliant unbeaten 73 from Jos Buttler, while Sai Sudharsan played a crucial supporting role with a well-made 49. Earlier, it was Mohammed Siraj who set the tone for Gujarat with a dream spell of 3/19 in four overs, rattling his former franchise with early wickets. Starting his bowling being smashed with a picture perfect cover-drive from Virat Kohli, Siraj’s fiery burst left RCB struggling at 42/4 inside the powerplay, dismissing Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, and Liam Livingstone. RCB managed to recover somewhat, thanks to a fighting 54 from Livingstone and a brisk 33 from Jitesh Sharma, but the total of 169/8 always looked below par. However, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler steadied the innings, adding 75 runs for the second wicket. Sudharsan fell agonizingly short of a run from a deserving fifty, caught behind off Josh Hazlewood, but Buttler continued his onslaught, smashing five fours and six sixes in his unbeaten 73 off just 39 balls. With only 20 runs needed off the last three overs, Sherfane Rutherford arrived as the impact substitute and made his presence felt immediately. His quickfire 30 off 18 balls, including three towering sixes, ensured that Gujarat Titans wrapped up the chase with 13 balls to spare. For RCB, the bowlers toiled hard, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/23) and Hazlewood (1/43) providing the only breakthroughs. However, the lack of a big total meant they were always on the back foot.
