In the latest development, Gujarat Giants have appointed Ashleigh Gardner as the new captain for the upcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 3rd edition. Gardner will take over the leadership duties from her teammate Beth Mooney, who captained the side in the previous edition of the WPL. After two disappointing campaigns in the previous two editions, the franchise is looking to change its fortune with a tactical new move. She said: “It is an absolute honour for me to be named the captain of Gujarat Giants. I have loved being a part of this team and I am excited to lead this fantastic group in the upcoming season. We have a great mix of young and experienced players and plenty of Indian talent in our squad. I am looking forward to working with the team and making our fans proud.” Gardner has been playing a key role for the Gujarat Giants since the beginning of the WPL tournament. In the last two seasons, the star cricketer has made 324 runs and has also scalped 17 wickets. Gujarat Giants Women will start their WPL 2025 campaign against the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women on 14th February.
