The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has officially announced that it will launch a new T20 league from the 2025–26 domestic season. The news was broken by GCA secretary Anil Patel, who indicated that the proposal is ready but details such as the dates of the matches and the number of teams are yet to be finalized. This decision comes after other Indian states such as Delhi, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Saurashtra, and Bengal already operate their own thriving state T20 leagues. Tournament Details Yet to Be Finalised While speaking to Cricbuzz, Anil Patel said: “We have decided to go ahead with our own T20 league. The finer details, including the schedule and team structure, are being worked out." The GCA has not made up its mind as yet on the precise window of the league, the number of teams, or the venues. The majority of state leagues take place in June-July, post-IPL, but this window is now congested. Gujarat can explore a new window to avoid conflicts and get proper visibility for scouts and broadcasters. It has excellent venues, such as Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, and other venues in Vadodara, Surat, and Rajkot, which can be utilized for the matches. But most young cricketers in the state are deprived of an opportunity to prove their worth because they lack exposure. With this league, GCA aims to: Find young players from throughout the state. Provide opportunities to those who are not in the senior squad. Prepare players to play on a bigger platform such as the IPL and India A. Put more spotlight, sponsors, and money into Gujarat cricket. State leagues have already catapulted the likes of Tushar Deshpande (Mumbai), Sai Sudharsan (TNPL), Mayank Yadav (Delhi), and Riyan Parag (Assam) to the IPL and even Team India. GCA's decision is not merely along with the trend. It's a major step in forging a good future for Gujarati cricket. All are now waiting for the complete announcement regarding teams, format, and the complete schedule.
