The Uttar Pradesh Government is all set to speed up to get their fourth international cricket stadium, Gorakhpur International Cricket Stadium. The construction of this stadium has already begun and is likely to be in shape by 18 months. Uttar Prdesh already has two functional stadiums, one in Kanpur, the Greenpark Stadium, and the other one in Lucknow, the Ekana Stadium. The third stadium is under construction in Varanasi. Set on a sprawling 50-acre site at Tal Nadaur in Gorakhpur, the stadium is slated to be ready within the next 18 months. This ambitious ₹236.40 crore project promises to redefine the region's sporting identity. Gorakhpur's inclusion completes a strategic sporting triangle in eastern UP. The state government's Planning Department has chalked out a meticulous roadmap for the construction. Spread over 45 acres, the main complex will house the arena and essential match-day infrastructure, while the remaining 5 acres are earmarked for auxiliary facilities. Notably, the site is strategically located—less than 25 kilometers from Gorakhpur Airport, the railway station, and key bus terminals. It will feature seven central pitches, four practice strips, and an estimated seating capacity of nearly 30,000 spectators. The design follows International Cricket Council (ICC) guidelines, ensuring that it is equipped to host top-tier matches. The structure is envisioned to serve as a hub for regional, national, and international events—spanning sport, culture, and public engagement. To manage large footfalls, plans include massive parking space for up to 1,500 vehicles. Both east and west stands will accommodate 14,490 spectators each, forming the majority of the seating. The stadium will also boast designated north and south pavilions, secure entry gates, and thorough surveillance points. A new connecting road to the NH-24 Gorakhpur-Varanasi Highway is in the pipeline, promising seamless access on match days. Constructed under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model, the project signifies more than just bricks and mortar—it marks Gorakhpur’s rise on the national cricket map. For locals, it’s not just a stadium; it’s a symbol of aspiration and pride.
