On January 28, the 19-year-old right-handed Indian batter Gongadi Trisha made history in the ICC Under-19 Women's World Cup by becoming the first batter to score a century in the history of the tournament. India women are now facing Scotland at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, where Trisha achieved the feat in just 53 balls. On the final delivery of the 18th over, after India was sent in to bat first, Trisha guided Maisie Maceira's delivery towards backward point, securing a single that brought up her century. In doing so, she not only achieved a personal milestone but also set a new record for the highest individual score in the history of the championship. Trisha surpassed England's Grace Scrivens, who had previously scored 93 against Ireland in January 2023 in Potchefstroom. Trisha remained unbeaten with a brilliant 110 runs off just 59 balls, showcasing her innings with 13 boundaries and four sixes. Her incredible knock powered India to a commanding total of 208 for the loss of only one wicket. Trisha also shared a significant 147-run opening stand with G Kamalini, who contributed a solid 51 off 42 deliveries, including nine fours, before Maceira dismissed her in the 14th over.
