Glenn Maxwell has focused on assuming a more improved role in opening the bowling for Australia in the future. Maxwell has been a Powerplay choice for nation and franchises for quite some time now. The star all-rounder has had a record of being an aggressive, hard-hitter of the cricket ball, but never quite excelled in his skills with the ball. He, however, wishes to do the opposite and chip in tough situations for Australia. He indicated towards the responsibility and how he would look forward to capitalizing on it. Given the T20 World Cup next year in conditions of spin bowling in India and Sri Lanka, Maxwell is also keen to bowl during the powerplay overs, a task on its own that is challenging at times, considering the evolving nature of batters in the shortest form of the game of late. Here is what stated Maxwell, as quoted by Cricbuzz "I think in the subcontinent, you might be able to get a little bit more out of it as a spinner early on. Especially that new ball, the hard seam, being able to grip on those dry surfaces. So, it might be something we think about heading forward," Also Read: Rajasthan Royals want Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad for Trading Sanju Samson Maxwell also explained his euphoric celebrations after taking the wicket of Aiden Markram in the second T20I of the current series. The 36-year-old also spoke about his floater-type role as a batter in an attempt to assist his team in whatever manner possible. "I'm just as surprised as anyone when I get a wicket. I love getting wickets. It's very surprising anytime I get anyone out. I'm there to do a job in the Powerplay and I'm trying to execute that as well as I can. I've been a bit of the shuffler around the order, up and down. I'm filling holes at the moment. Even during the West Indies series, trying to combat Akeal Hosein (by) going up the top, this series going a little bit lower, trying to manage that back end. (I'm) trying to play whatever role is needed for me in this side and just try and be as adaptable as possible," he commented. Talking about Maxwell's bowling record, 17 of his 49 wickets have been achieved within the first six overs while bowling T20Is for Australia. He has maintained an economy of 7.30 bowling in the IPL since the 2022 edition, with eight wickets being picked up along the way.
