Maxwell's IPL-2025 has come to a premature close owing to an injury that has forced the Australian all-rounder out of the tournament. Although he was believed to be going back to form, Maxwell was expected to play in the next Punjab Kings clash against Chennai Super Kings. However, Shreyas Iyer, the captain, confirmed that Maxwell will not play because of injury and his replacement has not yet been announced. Discussingat the toss, Captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed, “Unfortunate that Maxwell’s got a fractured finger. Haven’t decided on a replacement so far.” He was not a part of the training session with the team at Chepauk, nor was he seen in action before the match, thus firmly confirming the unavailability. Despite his poor form in batting this season, Maxwell has continued to be a constant presence in the team of Punjab Kings. In total, he has played in 7 out of 8 matches with the team prior to the match against CSK, with a total of only 48 runs from 6 innings at an average of 8.00, and a strike rate of 97.95. Maxwell's effectiveness was far more pronounced in his bowling. He worked alongside Yuzvendra Chahal in the defence of a small total of 112 runs, triggering a complete downturn in KKR's fortunes. Maxy has since taken 4 wickets in 6 innings at an extremely economical rate of 8.46 runs per over and has been the best offer for the team with the ball. He could have been a thorn in the flesh for the CSK left-handers in a spinning Chepauk track.
