Glenn maxwell is back again under the guidance of coach Ricky Ponting, but unlike his awful performance in the Punjab Kings, he smashed a swashbuckling century in the Major Cricket League that brought him in the same slab as Rohit Sharma. Representing the Washington Freedom, Maxi smashed 106 runs off just 49 balls and thus bagged his eighth international century in T20 format. He thus became the cricketer with the fourth-most international centuries in T20, alongside Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler. From his own country, names like Aaron Finch and David Warner also share the same spot as Maxwell's. Maxi's innings came against the Los Angeles Knight Riders at the Oakland Coliseum, California, on Wednesday, June 18. Despite his team struggling, Maxwell was calm and turned the table for his side single-handedly. While he hit two boundaries, he smacked 13 over boundaries, giving deja vu of his legendary knock in the 2023 ODI World Cup against Afghanistan. But despite that, Ricky Ponting backed him and that has made him bloom for the team. Maxwell, after the match, said, "Sometimes things don't go your way; you just need time to find your rhythm. I've let Ricky (Ponting) down in a couple of tournaments. I even missed out on playing for Punjab toward the end of the IPL." He added, "Playing under Ricky, we hopefully have a chance to add to last year's trophy. We tried to stick to that 6 to 8 metre length. Chopping and changing the bowlers helped as well. Netravalkar did well. Adair did well in his first game. You just have to adapt. The attitude in the group has been outstanding." Maxwell’s brilliance laid the foundation as Washington Freedom’s bowlers, led by Jack Edwards and Mitchell Owen with three wickets each, skittled out LA Knight Riders for just 95. With momentum on their side, they now gear up to face MI New York on June 22.
